I'm having lot of racket/rattle in the top cam area. I'm guessing it's a worn Cam Chain Tensioner, Two questions.
1. Is there an after market manual adjust CCT available, 2010?
2. Can you simply and slowly remove the CCT and slide the replacement in with out a teardown?

I've seen this done on other bikes.
I do have and have read the shop manual, I'm wondering if the manual is over the top with the tear down as Triumph tends to be and a short cut is possible. Anyone replaced the CCT?

I suspect the problem has to do with the decompression mechanisms [the fly weights on the ends of the ex.cam shaft] which is a common problem and my understanding is, it's not that hard to do.I can not speak from experience because I've never had the problem or done em.But before ya jump to conclusions ya wanna know what you're up against. At any rate, the cover will have to come off so you can see what's goin on in there.

Hopefully I'll get some feed back from other members also

What kind of rattle are you hearing?
Is it a clacking that comes and goes with different engine speeds / loads, or is it there all the time?

A loose cam chain is a fairly unique sound and tends to come and go on acceleration and deceleration.
Unless you have the timing pin tool i wouldn't be trying to remove and replace the cct. It's easy to slip a tooth on the sprocket.
What ever you decide I'd suggest lifting the cam cover and have a look.

I sometimes wonder what I"ll do when I grow up.... but not very often

I'm wondering if the chain might be rapping against the chain guide that's between the two cam sprockets. Even with a good cct there might be enough play to cause some deflection at certain speeds. I never had to cam cover off, so just a guess based on pictures.

Guys, 2010 1700, 13,100 miles

I've been holding off to update until I knew what was actually going to happen. With much hesitation I put the bike in the shop a week ago Wednesday. A new Triumph dealer but a long time dealership of other brands. Of course they were not sure what was causing the noise so I ask them to check valve clearances. Three valves slightly out so that cant be it! We called Triumph tech line and their response was piston slap. Told the dealer to send in a warranty claim and Triumph would probably approve it as this has been an issues on a few of the early 1700 designs. Keep in mind the bike is 5 years old with no extended warranty. I'm the second owner.

Immediately Triumph denied the claim. So my dealer goes to bat for me several conference calls back and fourth. It just so happens the sales manager was to be in Atlanta on Wednesday and had a face to face with Triumph and got the claim approved parts and labor!
New pistons new sleeves, all the associated gaskets etc. I am fn stoked, let's just hope they don't F up something. I should have the bike back on Saturday May the 9th if all goes well. I've had a 700 mile trip planned for sometime beginning on May the 13th.

FYI, I'm having the cam chain and the CC tensioner replaced while they are in there.

Fingers crossed !!!
